Sativa Banks examines intimate partner violence (IPV) and media representations of intimate partner homicide (IPH). Her scholarship explores how violence affecting vulnerable populations is framed across traditional and digital media, and how those narratives shape prevention priorities.

Using mixed-methods approaches, Banks centers structural context to investigate how media portrayals influence policy discourse and perceptions of risk and preventability. Her work seeks to advance more equitable, evidence-informed approaches to violence prevention that center the experiences of those most impacted.
