Community Engagement and Service
What We Do
We strive to do work not only about, but in service of, with, and accountable to communities, ensuring that what we learn through research is more meaningful, applicable, and accessible to those who can benefit from it.
In addition to applying implementation science and participatory research principles to engage impacted populations in studying violence, many of our faculty and staff apply their knowledge in service to their local communities or in collaboration with community-serving organizations.

UC Davis Health Wraparound Program
CVP researchers support program evaluation and evidence-based practice improvements in collaboration with the UC Davis Health Wraparound Program, a hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP) that provides case management to youth and young adults ages 13-30 who were injured by community violence. The program extends care beyond the hospital to support long-term healing and recovery while also helping patients find hope and purpose. Learn about the Wraparound Program.

Black & Brown Collective: For Community Solutions to Gun Violence
The Black & Brown Collective, established in 2024, supports a multidisciplinary network of racially and ethnically marginalized community violence prevention scholars, including their research, scholarly discourse, and policy creation. They develop training and research to understand and inform solutions to the structural and community violence that has made a disproportionate impact on Black and Brown communities. CVP is a proud supporter of the Collective, for which Shani Buggs is co-founder and serves as co-chair of the advisory committee and Nicole Kravitz Wirtz is a founding member.
