Bio

Danielle Sobol studies programs and policies that protect high-risk populations from involvement with the criminal justice system. Her research focuses on the effects of social safety net benefits and other poverty-reduction policies, with specific attention to how benefits received in early childhood affect adult justice system outcomes.

Sobol’s work spans multiple stages of the justice process and includes collaborations with law enforcement agencies to develop alternative response models, evaluations of diversion and restorative justice programs, analyses of services designed for reentry populations, and investigations into the role of discretion and bias in decision-making. She employs a range of econometric and mixed methods in her research to both isolate causality and gain insight into lived experience.
