Research That Drives Change
For more than 35 years, the Centers for Violence Prevention (CVP) have been at the forefront of violence prevention research, developing knowledge and driving change.
VP conducts rigorous, interdisciplinary, and actionable research on the causes, consequences, and prevention of violence. Enhanced by engaging in education and policy development, CVP research has led to real-world impacts culminating in lives saved.
Comprising the Violence Prevention Research Program and the California Firearm Violence Research Center, CVP conducts rigorous, interdisciplinary, and actionable research on the causes, consequences, and prevention of violence. Enhanced by engaging in education and policy development, CVP research has led to real-world impacts culminating in lives saved.
In the US, approximately 45,000 lives are lost annually to gun violence. More than twice as many people are shot and survive. US firearm deaths and injuries lead to annual costs upwards of $500 billion.
Bold New Frontiers
There is still much to learn about the dynamics of violence. Building on decades of CVP research, we are expanding our interdisciplinary team in size and scope, addressing violence prevention from new angles. With creativity and tenacity, we are forging bold new frontiers in violence prevention research.
Together, we can preserve futures and change the trajectory of one of America's most significant public health problems.
"By expanding dominant narratives and shifting how the field of violence prevention understands the problem and its solutions, we are reenvisioning a future in which the goal is not merely the absence of violence but rather a comprehensive community safety and health ecosystem rooted in the humanity and dignity of those most impacted. “
