Safe firearm storage
Inside our August 2023 newsletter
In this issue: It’s that time of year when students everywhere are going back to school. In the spirit of education, why not take a few minutes to refresh your knowledge about safe practices for firearm storage? Only 1/3 of California gun owning households with children store their firearms in the most secure way: locked, unloaded, separate from ammunition, and with the keys and combinations inaccessible to unauthorized users. Having the right information might save your life or the life of someone you care about.
Unsure where to start? We’d like to direct your attention to the BulletPoints Project. Many of you may recall the initiative that began in 2019 when the California State Assembly granted us funding to spearhead an education program designed to provide medical and mental health care clinicians with the knowledge and tools needed to reduce the risk of firearm injury in their patients. However, the information found within BulletPoints is easily understood by everyone, clinician or not.
Take a minute and educate (or reeducate) yourself on safe firearm storage practices and devices. Or register now for our on-demand and free continuing education course, Preventing Firearm Injury: What Clinicians Can Do.
Do you teach or supervise clinicians? Do you want to learn how to incorporate firearm injury prevention into your education? The registration for the BulletPoints Train the Trainer Workshop on Clinical Firearm Injury Prevention is now open. Learn more below in the Clinical Corner. If you know someone who might benefit from this course, please forward it to them. Together, we can create a safer future through knowledge and education.
